King Soldierbream LN7 $65
These rare fish prints are from
Poissons des campagnes du “de Lanessan”
(1925-1929). Published by P. Chevey, after watercolours
of Luu-Khac-Khiem. An important work on the fishes of
Asia, it describes 33 marine and 17 freshwater fishes.
The lithographs are in excellent condition on a creamy
strong paper with no flaws. The colors are very
vibrant, some with genuine silver hand finishing. Each
print measures approximately 12 ¼ inches wide by 10
inches long.
These prints represent a very
interesting slice of history, as they were printed from
the capital of Vietnam, Saigon, at a time when the
French ruled Vietnam and that part of the world was then
known as Indochina. War was raging in Europe and who
would have predicted the tumultuous half century the
then peaceful Vietnam would see after the departure of
the French. These beautiful prints certainly represent
the more positive aspects of a colonial era soon to end
and are a unique addition to a print collection.
