Water Rail BLK157 $175
Each print measures approximately 10 1/2
inches by 14 1/2 inches.
We are pleased to offer a selection
of prints from the 1st edition of “Birds Drawn from
Nature” by Jemima Blackburn, published in Edinburgh
in1862. These rare hand colored lithographs depict many
different species of birds along with their nests &
eggs, and are among some of the most endearing nest &
bird illustrations of the period.
Jemima Blackburn (1823-1909) was
one of the most popular and talented ornithological
illustrators of the Victorian era. By her early twenties
she had earned the praise of Sir Edwin Landseer who said
“in portraying animals, I have nothing to teach her”,
and was called “the best illustrator I know” by John
Ruskin.
Each print is in excellent condition on strong white paper. The hand coloring is superb, by a professional colorist in the United Kingdom. These prints are quite rare, as
a very limited number of the 1st edition folio prints
were published & this work is most often seen in late
editions. Each print measures approximately 10 1/2
inches by 14 1/2 inches. There is no descriptive text,
but a copy of the title page will be included. The
photos are very accurate, so please review carefully.
All our prints are authentic antique prints and
guaranteed to be from the date stated. These prints are
about 140 years old.
