Buff Cochin Hen WRP2 $95
Each print measures approximately 8 1/4 inches by 10 1/2 inches

We are pleased to offer highly colored chromolithographed prints from this comprehensive work of over 600 pages on poultry and poultry keeping that includes fine chromolithographed illustrations of chickens, geese and ducks. Lewis Wright produced The Illustrated Book of Poultry in 1870 & this volume was issued in 1880. This popular book was a wonderful resource for all who wanted to keep chickens, game birds and other poultry.

It is so illustrative of the English bent for embracing the exotic in all spheres.  Many of these chickens contributed very few eggs indeed to the pantry, as they were long on broodiness & ornamentation, rather the extreme egg laying capacity so characteristic of modern chickens.   We raised many of these showy chickens in the small English village of my childhood, which was a veritable haven of breeders of exotic pigeons, parrots, parakeets, not to mention fanatical gardeners!  Interestingly, it is still possible to order many of these exotic birds from mail order companies in the US.

The overall size of these prints is approximately 8 1/4 inches wide by 10 1/2 inches long, with the colors very bright & the condition excellent. Please review the photos carefully, as they are quite accurate.
