TUR1 $35
Each print measures approximately 5 inches wide by 7 3/4 inches long.
Turpin was one of the greatest botanical painters of his time. Largely self taught, he was inspired by the botanical painter Poiteau (1776 – 1854) who became a life long friend. After a colorful early period he settled in Paris to collaborate on many fine works including Francois Pierre Chaumeton’s Flore Medicale, published in seven volumes in Paris in 1815, then again with the assistance of his wife in 1830-1831. We are pleased to be able to offer a selection of
hand colored prints from the original 1814 first edition of this outstanding
work. The prints are in excellent condition, with very
occasional light foxing, on a strong light creamy paper. The plates are beautifully executed stipple engravings in very fine detail, finished by hand.
The coloring is the most vivid & vibrant we have
ever seen in this work. Please review the photos as they are very accurate. All our prints are guaranteed authentic antique prints, with these prints being about
190 years old.
Each print is accompanied by the long descriptive French text, also typical of this work, with the names of the plants in many languages, including English & Latin. Sometimes the English names are very odd & not at all correct! Each print measures approximately
5 inches wide by 7 3/4 inches long. Please review the photos carefully as they are very accurate
