of prints from “La Botanique Mise a La Portee de tout
le Monde” by Nicolas François Regnault with most of
the engravings by his wife, Genevieve de Nangis
Regnault, published in Paris, 1874. These originally
hand colored prints copper engravings described by Blunt
as “Perhaps the most impressive French Botanical work of
the period.”
The work includes both useful &
decorative plants, including the newly discovered potato
which Genevieve de Nangis Regnault described in an
engaging & typically French manner as “possibly the only
good thing that ever came out of America.”
Each print is on high-quality,
chain-lined paper, with strong plate marks. Most sheets
bear watermarks. There is an occasional very light fox
mark, usually in the margins. Each print measures
approximately 13 inches by 18 inches, and is
accompanied by the original descriptive text & a copy of
the title page. Please inspect the images carefully as
they are quite accurate. These prints are in excellent
condition, and over 230 years old.
The selection is of the topmost
decorative prints from the entire work, and in size it is
close to the Besler at a fraction of the cost.
