Pennant Bird Prints c1810

While our images are electronically watermarked, the antique prints themselves are not.

The Red Headed Cuckow PNB5 $55
Each print measures approximately 7 3/4 inches by 9 1/2 inches.

These superb copper engravings are from Thomas Pennant's British Zoology c1810. Born in Wales, Pennant is considered one of the most influential naturalists of his time. A fellow of the royal society, he was a contemporary of Catesby and Edwards. He also maintained a life-long correspondence with Carl Linnaeus. This ambitious work was an attempt to catalogue all the bird and quadruped species in Great Britain, and was very expensive to produce.

Each hand-colored print is on a strong wove paper, still quite white. Occasional foxing is present on some of the prints, mostly marginal, and does nothing to distract from the beauty of these prints. Each print measures approximately 7 3/4 inches by 9 1/2 inches.
