Petrifying Springs NP17 $135

We are delighted to offer this selection of prints from the work entitled Thirty Plates Illustrative of Natural Phenomena, Etc.  This book includes vividly hand colored illustrations of various natural phenomena, including aurora borealis, Will-o’-the-Wisp, and volcanoes.  It was published by the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge in 1846.  The Society was founded in 1698 as part of the Church of England and produced theological works, as well as books on popular science, travel, biography, and fiction.

The condition of these prints is excellent.  The paper is a beautiful cream with little or no foxing, as shown.  Each print measures approximately 10 ¾ inches wide by 13 ½ inches long with an entrancing description of each phenomenon as understood by the science of the day.  These prints again represent the convergence of science and art which produced so many highly decorative and whimsical works.  The photos are very accurate, so please review carefully.
