Acetosa vulgaris Rumex Canpserunus MUZ174 $35
Each print measures approximately 6
inches by 7 3/4 inches.
We are pleased to offer a selection of prints from the 1681 quarto first edition of “Vera Herba Britannica” and “Aloidarium sive Aloes Mucronato Folio Americanae Majoris” by Abraham Munting, two separate works published in the same volume. This is a rare & scholarly treatise on British herbs possibly effective against scurvy, to which was added a treatise on various species of the American aloe. There is a beautifully engraved allegorical frontispiece, a color copy of which will be included with each print.
Abraham Munting, born in 1626 in Groningen, was a Dutch physician, professor, & internationally renowned botanist. He became director of the Hortus Botanicus at Groningen at the age of 32 and served at that position until his death in 1683.
These prints are vibrantly hand colored by one of the last remaining professional colorists in England. They are in excellent condition on soft creamy chain-lined paper with most bearing watermarks. Each print measures approximately 6 inches wide by 7 3/4 inches long with no foxing or text offset. There is no descriptive text. Please inspect the images carefully as they are quite accurate. They are
over 325 years old!
