Sharp-leaved Alstroemeria MAB174 $45

In 1837, Benjamin Maund started the publication of a sister periodical to the highly successful Botanic Garden, named The Botanist, in five volumes with 250 hand colored engravings. It contains plates of single blooms of tender and hardy ornamentals. The work is of a precision, beauty and intense color unrivalled in all of botanical illustration. The plates are by Miss Taylor, Mrs. Withers, Miss S. Maund, and Mrs. E Bury, among others, & engraved by S Watts, Nevitt & Smith.

We are currently offering a selection of prints from this periodical in the quarto edition size, approximately 7 inches wide by 8 1/2 inches long. All plates in this series of 250 are original hand colored engravings and of the utmost delicacy and beauty. The condition of the plates is excellent with paper strong and not brittle and still quite white. The plates are bright with very fine coloring. It is remarkable for a work that is almost 200 years old. Each print is accompanied by the descriptive text and a copy of the title page. The photos are very accurate, so please review carefully.
