Each print measures approximately 8 inches by 10 1/2 inches.

Jane Webb Loudon (1807-1858) struggled with financial difficulties all her life. Left impoverished by her father, she wrote a novel The Mummy, Tales for the Twenty Second Century which became a bestseller. Through it, she met her husband, a botanical illustrator. She decided to write botanical books the ordinary person could understand. Her first, Instructions in Gardening for Ladies was a great success. She is renowned for her monumental works with lavish plates, including The Ladies Flower Garden of Ornamental Perennials. References include Nissen 1237; Great Flower Books (1990), p.115.

These beautifully hand colored lithographed plates finished with gum arabic measure approximately 8 inches by 10 1/2 inches. The condition of the plates is very good to excellent. On some there may be very slight minor foxing. The paper is strong, the plates are generally clean with excellent color. Please review the photos carefully as they are very accurate. These plates were highly prized by previous generations, and many were cut up for decorative purposed, so they have become quite a rarity.
