Queen Mary JEF200 $115
Each print measures approximately 9
1/4
inches by 12 inches.
Famed Hollywood costume designer Madame Karinska took
much of her inspiration from "A Collection of the
Dresses of Different Nations, Ancient and Modern;"
Panteek is pleased to bring you the same inspiring
figures of fashions worn by English, French and other
European nobility.
Thomas Jefferys (1757-1772) based the engravings on
portraits created by master painters, including Hans
Holbein the Younger, Antoon van Dyck (known in England
as Sir Anthony Vandyke), and Wenzel Hollar. The stunning
originally hand-colored images have made this work a
favorite; several plates from these have appeared on
educational television, including the BBC television
series "Through the Looking Glass - a History of Dress."
The prints in this collection come from volume II,
printed in 1757. They are in excellent condition,
with the beautiful original hand coloring typical of the
1700's on a thick chain lined ivory paper. On a
few, there is a small thin area where an inscription has
been removed, mostly imperceptible. Each
print measures approximately 12" by 9 1/4."
