Each print measures approximately 6 inches by 8 1/2 inches.

Panteek is pleased to offer this series of Dutch emblems from 1640. The pictorial images, at times referring to Greek and Roman mythology, are accompanied by Latin titles and Flemish verse to suggest a humanist ideal. In the Renaissance, such emblems were a potent way of conveying important principles to the European public. This collection was created by Johannes Bolland with verse by Adriaen Poirters.

As is expected with a work this age, the margins are somewhat soiled and text is printed on the verso. However, the quality of the engravings is high and the emblems themselves are fascinating vignettes. They have been recently hand colored by our professional English colorist.
