Blue Hawk or Hen Harrier BWO12 $235
Each print measures approximately 13 1/4 inches by 17 inches.

Wilson's American Ornithology was an outstanding contribution to the world of ornithology as the first work on American birds, printed in America. After Wilson's death, this work was extended by Prince Charles Lucien Bonaparte of France, with 27 hand-colored plates drawn by Titian Ramsey Peale, Alexander Rider, and one plate originally drawn by John James Audubon and apparently modified by Rider. After publication of Bonaparte's work, the work of Wilson and Bonaparte was considered incomplete without the other.

In 1871edition of American Ornithology on high quality paper and folio size with superior hand coloring was the only edition to include the additional Bonaparte images. The Bonaparte plates were stone lithographs instead of copper plate engravings, thus these prints lack plate marks. These prints make an interesting addition to the Wilson plates for the collector.
