The lavishly illustrated plates, hand colored or finished lithographs contain a wonderful selection of plants following the interests of the famous contributors of the era - orchids, palms, rhododendrons, azaleas and exotic plants among the 23 volumes. Most of the plants depicted in the journal were for sale in van Houtte's nursery, so in one sense these plates acted as his catalogue.
We are pleased to offer a selection of the journal's double-sized prints.
Each print measures approximately 13 1/2 inches by 9 3/4 inches, and has the folds
original to the double prints in the issue, which will largely press out. The relevant descriptive text is provided whenever
possible. The condition
of these prints is excellent, with the paper generally
quite white & the colors very vivid. On some there
may be slight marginal foxing. Please inspect the image carefully, as it is very
accurate and the full margins are shown. All our prints are
original antique prints, and these prints are at least a
100 years old.
