Each print measures approximately 6 1/4 by 7 3/4 inches

Alain Manesson Mallet published Description de L’Univers to be a comprehensive atlas not only for the earth, but the universe beyond. It is a snapshot of the scientific knowledge of the cosmos from centuries ago. It describes a time when Copernicus’ & Tycho’s views on the universe as the center of the world still held sway, so there are charming portrayals of the earth ringed by the planets, sun, moon & firmaments.

We are offering a selection of these fascinating prints from the German version of L’Univers, published in Frankfurt 1719. Each print measures approximately 6 1/4 by 7 3/4 inches on old-style chain lined paper that is toned with occasional spotting. They have been beautifully hand coloured by professional English colourists. There is no descriptive text but a copy of the title page will be included. These prints are over 285 years old.
