Each print measures approximately 8 3/4 inches by 12 1/4 inches.

We are very pleased to offer a series of bird prints from a first edition of Axel Amuchastegui's Love Life of the Birds. Unlike most of the prints on our website, this work dates from 1952, so the prints are 50 years old. We offer them because of the exceptional beauty and scarcity of the prints of this renowned artist, for whom there is now a tremendous appreciation. He is certainly one of the great ornithology illustrators of the 20th century.

A self-taught artist, Axel Amuchastegui was born in Cordoba, Argentina in 1921. He speaks with lyricism of the beauty of the natural environment in which he grew up, raised by his grandmother and parents to have a love of all the creatures of the wild. He illustrated many works, including Birds of the World, Some Birds & Mammals of North America and Studies of Birds & Mammals of South America. He gradually developed a unique technique for his paintings using Chinese inks and watercolors. Jorge Mayol, the renowned painter was apprenticed to him & he is exhibited in many museums. Argentina has designed several postage stamps from his paintings.

These prints are brilliant color lithographs in excellent condition on fine white rag paper with strong plate marks. Each print measures approximately 8 3/4 inches by 12 1/4 inches and is signed in the plate by the artist.
